United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG)

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in Zanzibar

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the SDGs are a collection of 17 interconnected goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.”

Urban Care is proud to be a participant of the UN Global Compact Network, a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible business practices. We are joining thousands of other companies globally, committed to taking responsible business action to create the world we all want. The UN Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 15,000 companies and 3,800 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and more than 69 Local Networks. Below you can find the UN SDGs that Urban Care has been committed to take action on.

SDG 3 ensures health and well-being, SDG 4 promotes quality education, and SDG 5 advances gender equality.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG)

SDG 3
Good Health & Well-being

Our dedication to offering affordable primary care, urgent care, dental care, counseling, nutritional counseling, and home care services, particularly to uninsured people, plays a significant role in promoting healthy lives and well-being for all ages. This approach is especially crucial in supporting the local population on Zanzibar Island, who might otherwise lack access to these essential health services.

SDG 4
Quality Education

Our commitment to quality education and health literacy extends beyond our clinical services to include public education on health matters. We publish educational content on our website and social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, addressing topics like mental health awareness, chronic disease management, preventive healthcare, and specific conditions like breast and prostate cancer.

SDG 5
Gender Equality

We actively support SDG 5 through targeted health services and education for gender equality. Our breast cancer awareness and free screening programs prioritize women's health and early detection. We involve men in health education to promote gender inclusive healthcare, empowering women with knowledge and access to services. This approach reduces disparities and makes women's health a community priority.

SDG 9 drives innovation for industry growth, SDG 10 reduces inequality, and SDG 11 builds resilient, inclusive cities.

SDG 9
Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure

We utilize advanced medical technology and innovative healthcare services. Our equipment, with modern healthcare technologies, ultrasound and laboratory services, enhances the quality and accessibility of medical care in the region. Our remote consultations and home visit services are modernizing healthcare delivery in an emerging urban area.

SDG 10
Reduced Inequalities

Our dedication to offering affordable primary care, urgent care, dental care, counseling, nutritional counseling, and home care services, particularly to uninsured people, plays a significant role in promoting healthy lives and well-being for all ages. This approach is especially crucial in supporting the local population on Zanzibar Island, who might otherwise lack access to these essential health services.

SDG 11
Sustainable Cities & Communities

We advance SDG 11 within Fumba Town, Zanzibar. Located in this new urban development, we ensure accessible healthcare services, enhancing community resilience and reducing the need for residents to travel for care. This fosters community well-being and aligns with objectives of improving urban life quality and community preparedness.

SDG 17 fosters global partnerships for sustainable development.

SDG 17
Partnerships for the Goals

Our public-private partnership with the Zanzibar Ministry of Health has been instrumental in shifting the delivery of healthcare services in our area and improved accessibility and coverage drastically. Additionally, we have adopted modern technology and telemedical solutions that create opportunities for collaboration with technology providers and other healthcare organizations. Such partnerships are key to advancing SDG 17, fostering innovation, and enhancing healthcare delivery.
