Urban Care’s Community Clinic - Access to Quality Healthcare Services for All
Our vision at Urban Care is to make high quality healthcare services accessible to all. Access to safe healthcare services is a basic human right. Therefore, at our health center, no patient is turned away, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
To fulfil our role in achieving universal health coverage, we have set up a number of initiatives that in combination help play a vital role in our community on the way to an improved health service availability and delivery of services:
Public-Private partnership with
the Zanzibar Ministry of Health
Through this partnership we have increased our reach within our community, making our health services even more affordable to patients with little financial means. We have also broadened the services we offer them.
Kadi ya Jamii
In 2020, we have introduced a “Kadi ya Jamii” - a membership card for our financially disadvantaged community members, that are identified in coordination with the shehas from our surrounding communities. Patients with a “Kadi ya Jamii” can access our healthcare services at a highly reduced rate - TZS 2,000 (USD 0,80) is paid per quarter to be able to receive consultation, basic laboratory tests, ultrasonography, medication, antenatal and postnatal care and baby well checks within this quarter. Other services are offered at an extremely reduced price. This offer is made possible through memberships from other community members, our pricing structure where the treatment of 1 insured patient can cover for up to 5 treatments of “Kadi ya Jamii” holders and kind donations.
Community visits
In order to ensure treatment adherence of our chronically ill patients (such as diabetes and hypertension for example), we are collaborating with D-Tree International and have a group of 30 Community Health Volunteers that have been trained and equipped in health awareness education and screening methods. These Community Health Volunteers work closely with us and assist in following up regular patients, encouraging them to continue with treatments to improve the overall health of our community members.
Monthly Awareness Sessions
Our community liaison officer is organizing with the shehas monthly health awareness sessions in our surrounding communities. Subjects covered range from women’s health, cancer awareness, non-communicable disease prevention, mental health and more. These sessions are another important way to remain in contact with our community members and encourage them to take action towards a healthier lifestyle and improve their overall well-being.
